Re: 1st Laparoscopy in a week....scared...From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed Apr 21 22:38:39 2004
Tiffany & Shelby, I'm 26, had my first lap in February. My doctor and the staff at the surgery center were amazing. I had previously gotten sick from anesthisia when I had my wisdom teeth removed, and was very nervous about that. They gave me meds to help prevent nausea and vomiting before and after surgery. I'm happy to say I didn't get sick at all. The pain was not great at first. At the clinic I remember just wanting to go home. After I came home and napped for a bit I was exhausted and tired, and started getting sore. My best advice is to keep taking the drugs they prescribe to you the first 24 - 48 hours. If it says every 6 hours, take it every 6 hours. You'll feel much better. Going pee for the first time after surgery was painful, but every time I went it got better. My husband was in the waiting room. If you have a husband/boyfriend and your mom or a girlfriend isn't going to be waiting to speak to the doctor, my best advice would be to have them on the cell phone. My husband tried his best to understand and comprehend what my doctor was saying, but didn't quite get it. A woman I think would definitely get it better. I had adhesions removed, but there was no active endo growing. Bummer. Full recovery seriously took about a month, but after two weeks I was feeling fairly well. The scar in my belly button you can't see and the one in my pubic line my husband lovingly says "x" marks the spot. :) If you have any questions or need anything at all, please feel free to email me. eurydyce @ sbcglobal.net (just remove the spaces). Good luck to you both. Remember, it'll all work out fine, I'm sure. Always, Rachael
