Re: I have lap remorse...Did I really need it?

Lily, What you are describing is pretty typical lap recovery. I have had two and both times experienced the bloating, fear that my body would never be the same, pain in the incision areas, etc. I can tell you that all of it goes away with time. You only had surgery 12 days ago and should not expect your body to just bounce right back to normal. I missed three weeks of work with both laps In both cases, the swelling was pretty much down by the time I went back to work. It has not effected my body long term, other than to make my endo symptoms better for awhile. My belly area went back to normal size and my actual belly button looks fine, except for a small scar, which no one can see anyway. My incision scars itched and ached for several months after the surgery but even that has gone away with time. I definitely don't think you should expect to be back to normal within a week's time. Each person heals differently, and of course, age makes a difference (my second lap when I was five years older was definitely harder on my body) but just because one person feels normal in a week doesn't mean your body will react the same way. Even though a lap is outpatient and you don't have to stay overnight does not mean that major surgery wasn't done. And the more that is removed during a lap will also effect how quickly you heal.

It sounds to me like you are just in the norm and have nothing to worry about. Just be patient and give your body time to readjust. As far as herbs go in the treatment of cysts, I am not sure. I know that some cysts will burst and go away on their own, but if not, the only way I know to get rid of them is through surgery. My boss at work just had the same thing done last summer, only in her case, the cyst had actually damaged her right ovary and it had to be removed. I know most Docs don't like to talk about any kind of alternative medicine though, which may be why we don't hear more about herbs.

I hope this helps a little. It definitely is no picnic recovering from surgery but try to think positive and don't be too hard on yourself! We endo women beat ourselves up enough as it is!

Hugs! Amy
