nerve pain, burning, tingling after lap

Just as a note to some of you who replied to my earlier message about the burning, tingling pain in my leg after surgery:

I got some terrific info from an MD friend of mine, who is an oncologist and deals with neuropathy often. He said it sounded like some peripheral nerves in the abdominal wall were damaged during my procedure, and that doesn't mean the procedure was done incorrectly, but my doctor probably should have warned me that this was possible. He said this is typical of damaged peripheral nerves, thinks the one damaged in me was the femoral nerve, and that this sensation will continue until the nerve has completely healed. He said Neurontin (spelling?) can help with the pain, as well as NSAIDs like Advil. He gave me hope that the nerve will regenerate itself and my pain should go away -- eventually.

As an aside, he was also completely sympathetic to my complaints of pain after the surgery and said my doctor should have sent me home with pain meds -- so bully for those of us told to take two Tylenol and suck it up!!

So, for those of you suffering with nerve pain and being told that it was too much time in the stirrups, or other stuff, know that there is at least one doc who believes that our nerves were damaged and thinks we will recover -- eventually!
