Frustration about recent changes to health concerning endo, hesistation to see doctor againFrom: Franny (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Feb 27 11:47:21 2004
I am 21 years old, and was diagnosed with endometriosis at 19. I had a laparoscopy performed about a year and a half ago to both diagnose and treat my endometriosis. Post-surgery I was placed on birth control, Levlite first, then Yasmin, then Nuva Ring, presently Ortho Evra. My pain and symptoms, which include nearly constant aching, diarrhea, pain with intercourse, fatigue, as well as others, subisided tremendously after the surgery, but began to reappear about 3-4 months later, at which time my birth control was changed. As before, 3-4 months later, my pain and symptoms began to reappear, so my birth control was changed, which lead to temporary relief from symptoms but in the same 3-4 month schedule, pain/symptoms reappeared. As a different approach than merely switching birth control, I have switched and am only having a period every three months. Right now, I am in the most significant pain I have been in since before my surgery, and my most recent period had me in bed for three days. Pain is constant though it varies in severity. Often I have diarrhea or feel nauseous, the nausea comes more with severe pain. My partner and I have stopped having intercourse because the pain during and after is so intense, despite having tried different positions, penetration, amount of foreplay, etc (all of which my most recent doctor has suggested). I am at a loss about what to do next. I am beyond frustrated. I don't like that this is something I do not have control over. I don't like that I hurt and am exhausted all of the time. I do not like that I do not know what is going on with my body. However, I am having some hesitation about going back to the doctor. What are they going to suggest next? Another surgery? More intense hormones? That I'm losing it? I feel so uncertain and afraid about all of this. I do not live close to my family, and even with the support from my partner, none of my other friends have any idea what is going on, so I end up keeping a lot of this to myself. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. Have a great day!
