Re: possible ovary removal after a hysterectomy?!

Hi Judy,

This happened to me. My right ovary at the time of my hyst was fine. A year and a half later, it was covered in endo. Have they done a transvaginal US to see if there are any cysts?

If you go the surgery route, you will more than likely not be able to have this done via laparscopy. If endo is involved it makes removal difficult. You will want to have a highly trained surgeon (perhaps a gyn oncologist surgeon) remove it. You need someone who can deal with both bowel and ureter complications. Make sure you are completely bowel prepped before the surgery -including antibiotics. The reason I say this is because you want to make sure they get the whole ovary out intact. If they don't you could end up with ovarian remnant syndrome like I did. Then the nightmare doesn't seem to end.

I hope this info helps. Good luck in your decision. Write back if you have more questions.

Best wishes, D.N.
