Re: After Laparoscopy Problems - Please Respond - Anything AppreciatedFrom: Laura (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Feb 25 19:57:11 2004
Christina, I had a lap done in December, and while the doctor supposedly didn't find anything or do anything in there, I felt awful for about a week and a half just from the incisions alone and from the side effects from the pain killers. My doc gave me the impression I would be back to work on Monday (my lap was on Friday.) Give me a break! It was a full week after the lap before I could even stand up straight. For several days afterward I could hardly move, the incisions were so painful. I just laid around with ice packs on my stomach. As for weight gain, I actually lost weight because the pain killers made me lose my appetite. I would be concerned about the lump under your incision, Christina. It might just be regular swelling but it could mean that the incision wasn't closed properly. Maybe you should go to a clinic or something if you can't see your regular doctor yet--it doesn't sound like his office is very helpful anyway. (It never ceases to amaze me how some doctors and nurses can be so mean to someone who is in so much pain!). As for sex, I think it was about three weeks after my lap that I had sex again (it took that long for me to feel myself again). I had to be careful because my incision sites were still tender. But the vagina is not affected by a lap so sex shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't try positions that use your stomach muscles! Don't feel stupid and lazy--take care of yourself. You need to take it easy so your body can heal. Some people just seem to take longer to heal from this kind of surgery. But you will get well again. Good luck, and let us know how you make out. :)
