Re: Over it!From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Feb 25 07:52:18 2004
Hi Crystal, I can relate to you about being hesitant about Lupron. I still experienced pain while being on it the whole time. I am getting ready to have my fourth lap done next week. My first lap was done in Nov. 2002, and after surgery I took Lupron monthly for six months...the following month or two after discontinuing it, the endometriosis came back with a vengeance, so I had to have a lap done again in July 2003. My pain returned in September 2003, but I got my Lupron shots on Oct. 1, 2003, and I ended up having another lap in the middle of October. I am currently taking the Lupron shots once every three months and I am on my last month of it. Well, I went to the doctor two weeks ago, and the endo has come back once again, even while being on Lupron! I don't like the side effects of Lupron and I have maxed out on it anyways (I think you can only stay on it for up to a year). Lupron does cause weight gain, mood swings and my scalp hair has started to fall out too. I guess what I am trying to say, is that everyone reacts to Lupron differently and that endometriosis can still come back while on Lupron, as it did to me. Also, unfortunately, from what I understand, a hysterectomy does not cure endometriosis. My doctor has recommended that I possibly take the Depo-Provera shots or be on continuous birth control after surgery. Depo-Provera does cause weight gain and break-through bleeding, so I think I am going to try the continuous birth control first. I hope everything works out for you and you find the best treatment for your endometriosis :) Good luck! Becky
