Re: Does this sound like endometriosis?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Feb 16 13:29:20 2004
Hi Ann. Yes, I have the same symptoms as you and have been scheduled for an exploratory laparoscopy on 2/24 to determine if it is endometriosis. I've suffered from pain for years, but within the past year it has become intense. The best way I like to describe it is someone tied a rope around my intestines, uterus and bladder and is trying to pull them out my rectum. There are days when I feel like my uterus is falling out, yet I'm told it's not. Sound like yours? Sitting at a desk all day makes it worse and like you, by the time I get home, all I can do is lay down, usually I put a heating pad on my backside and an ice pack on my lower abdomen. Lucky for me, my doctor prescribed Vicodin, which has helped tremendously, but my days of being on the go have come to a complete stop. Do you have any other symptoms like me, such as, difficulty urinating ( I literally can't pee but I feel full) or having bowel movements during ovulation (the worst time of the pain). I too feel it after I do empty my bladder, and have had blood in my urine for the past few years, which they now think is from endo. Intercourse has been a no for quite sometime also because of the pain. I don't have as much pain during menses like most women with endo do, and that's what throws me off about a possible endo diagnosis. But I do spot about a week after ovulation, which then runs into my "normal" menses, so I bleed for a total of 12-14 days. To answer your question, does it sound like endo? Yes. You're feeling what I'm feeling and the doctors tell me its endo. Don't be a dummy like me, get it checked now, and don't let the doctors tell you it's all in your head. Read as much as you can on the disease, and while no one wants to have surgery (I know I don't), it is the only way to diagnosis endo. I went through everything else(cystoscopy, ultrasound, IVP, cat scans) to rule out anything else and now my last resort is the surgery. If anything, see if you can get put on something stronger to ease your pain until they decide what avenue to pursue. I know, it's a horrible, horrible that no one understands unless you've felt it yourself. Good luck. Lisa R.
