Going for hysterctomy on FridayFrom: dyan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Jan 30 19:31:56 2004
I have had a long history of painful periods and heavy bleeding during my periods. I always thought this was normal. I had 2 healthy children and did not plan to have any more, but my husband wanted one more. I started trying to get pregnant, but had a very hard time. For 2 years I did not use any form of birth control and never could get pregnant. I finally found out I was pregnant, but soon miscarried. When I went to the doctor, he found a large cyst on my left ovary, in which he eventually removed with the tube due to an endometioma. He also opened my right tube and removed some adhesions. That was 4 yrs ago. I have been having symptoms again on my left side. I went for my annual checkup and he checked me for this pain I was having in my left lower quadrant radiating down my left groin and in my back. He had me go to my regular MD to be checked for bowel problems. This pain only becomes severe during my period, but never goes away. I finally called him again after 5 months of this pain and it became worse during my last period that lasted for 3 1/2 weeks (I am on bc pills). He did a pelvic and ultrasound, saw that my right ovary was stuck to the back of my uterus and bowel seemed to be adhered together and said that he felt like the endo is back and gave me the option of Lupron or hysterectomy. After explaining the side effects of Lupron, I opted for the hysterectomy due to the fact that I do not want anymore children and just want to get rid of this pain. I go next Friday for this. My question is how successful is having a hysterectomy for the symptoms not to come back and has anyone had this type of pain after a salpingo-oophorectomy on the same side? Any comments would be appreciated.
