I'm 21 and was diagnosed when I was 19. So far I've gone through five or six different types of oral birth control and have run the gambit of possible side effects. One made me so hormonal and emotional that I would start crying or giggling at work or in class for no reason. With another one I bleed lightly continuously, I thought I would die from the constant pain. The different ratios of estrogen to progestin in the pills is what makes the difference, have you tried different ones? Not to sound like a downer, but I haven't really heard anything good about the depo shot, my cousin got it and she was emotional for three months and gained almost thirty lbs. (she's only 5'1") A friends mother who has endo, (there's so much that it has fused her ovaries to her uterus and her uterus to her intestines) got the depo shot and bled for like four months. I can't imagine how you've dealt with it for so long, I already feel like I'm at my wits end with it. Right now we're(doctor and I) are just focusing on pain control and trying to prevent further growth, hence taking the pill continuously. With any major surgery there are bound to be side effects, which I'm sure you've been researching... Something you may not have thought about yet though is how you'll feel without reproductive organs. I'm guessing you don't plan on having any more children, but still, I would give it tons of serious thought, and let people know how much support you'll need from them if you decide to go through with it. When I was first diagnosed and researching exactly what Endo is I was terrified, and then when it hit me that all of those things were going on inside of me... I hope and pray every day, that some time in the future we won't have to go through this, nor our daughters, or their daughters.
