Re: Could surgery have aggravated adhesion?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 29 09:39:10 2004
Rosa, Yes!!! surgery can aggrivate an adhesion. I never had pain from my adhesions, and did not know they existed until five years ago when I had a LEEP done. After the LEEP, I had excrusiating pain that never went away. After a year of bugging my doctor to find out why I was in so much constant pain, he performed a lap. It was then that he diagnosed my endo, stage iv, and found all my adhesions. I have a huge one next to my right ovary, right where all my pain was coming from. He was not able to remove it, so I still suffer from severe pain from it. He explained it to me that a surgical procedure can "wake up" nerve endings causing you to feel the pain for the first time. Adhesion pain is not made up, it is real and intense and horribly painful. I had not ever heard of endo until a few weeks before my lap, and didn't know what adhesions were until my post-op. My pain was intense and severe for a full year before my surgery-there is no way I was making it up!! I don't know what to tell you to help with the pain, I take 1200mg of advil at a time, usually 2-3 times a day. That takes the edge off enough so that I can sort of function. As far as I know, there is nothing that can be done about adhesions.
