Hysterectomy: Is it my only alternative?

I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ in my right breast four years ago. I had a lumpectomy and soon went on tamoxifen. I had neither radiation or chemo therapy. My OB-GYN was concerned about scant infrequent bleeding and the enlargement of my uterus (now twice its size since two years ago). I also have a cyst in my left ovary and a fibroid tumor. This week I had an endometrial biopsy performed. My doctor told me that it appears benign but we must wait for the pathology report; however, she is recommending I have a hysterectomy.

Is a hysterectomy my only option? I dread the long recovery, which I'm sure will be hard and painful. Do the benefits so outweight the risks that I should have one?
