Quick rundown:

Lupron is a GnRH agonist. It stimulates the ovaries to produce hormones until the get overwhelmed and quit for the duration of the treatment.

>From what I can tell it was originally created to stop testosterone
production in men with prostate cancer, as it as the same action on testes as ovaries.

It's used to treat endo because it stops the body from producing estrogen, and puts you into a chemically induced menopausal state. Estrogen is what is thoght to make endo grow.

The side effects are numerous including all of the symptoms of Menopause and more: hot flashes, night sweats, short term memory problems, moodiness, weight gain/loss, edema (swelling of the feet and ankles), and loss of bone density. These are only the ones that I can think of off of the top of my head.

While it has become a conventional treatment, it is a difficult decision for many because of the controversy surrounding it. Many women report that their side effects are permanent, or last much longer than they were told that they might.

I hope that this overview tells you what you wanted to know.
