Re: LupronFrom: Senja (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jan 27 17:54:04 2004
Quick rundown: Lupron is a GnRH agonist. It stimulates the ovaries to produce hormones until the get overwhelmed and quit for the duration of the treatment.
>From what I can tell it was originally created to stop testosterone It's used to treat endo because it stops the body from producing estrogen, and puts you into a chemically induced menopausal state. Estrogen is what is thoght to make endo grow. The side effects are numerous including all of the symptoms of Menopause and more: hot flashes, night sweats, short term memory problems, moodiness, weight gain/loss, edema (swelling of the feet and ankles), and loss of bone density. These are only the ones that I can think of off of the top of my head. While it has become a conventional treatment, it is a difficult decision for many because of the controversy surrounding it. Many women report that their side effects are permanent, or last much longer than they were told that they might. I hope that this overview tells you what you wanted to know.
