Re: Belly button questionFrom: Laura (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 8 15:40:47 2004
No questions are stupid, Jennifer! I too have been worried about the condition of my belly button after my first lap one month ago. The shape of it is changed, even after the swelling has gone away, and the bottom half of it feels quite hard when I press on it, although I'm sure it will heal more as time goes on. I can't tell you how many times a belly button can be used, but if I had to guess I'd say that probably successive surgeries won't make it much worse--the same way that the first pregnancy always does the most damage to your body. But if the scar tissue is very hard maybe the doctor would make a cut underneath it instead of right on it. If your infection left you with a lot of scar tissue, why don't you see a plastic surgeon to remove it? I did some research on this myself and a lot of surgeons do belly button surgeries, to fix hernias or simply to improve the shape. Although you probably wouldn't want to do that until you were sure there were no more laps in store for you. Take care of yourself Jennifer, and good luck! :) Laura
