Re: Is your dr. just a OB/GYN, or is he/she a RE or a endo specialisit....From: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Dec 30 00:15:27 2003
There are regular OB/GYNs that know a lot about endo. They aren't the top specialists like Cook, Albee, Redwine, etc of course but they are out there. Some people think that Reproductive Endocrinologists (REs) are the best for all women with endo if they can't get to the top specialists but this is not necessarily the case in all cases. More and more REs are making it clear that they don't want to work with women who are not intending to try and have kids. The reason is b/c their primary reason for being in business is to try and help couples who can't get pregnant on their own. When it comes to a dr that knows alot about endo it doesn't matter whether it's a regular OB/GYN in your area (it's like finding a needle in a haystack but they are out there), an RE (if you can find one that will agree to treat you if you aren't planning to have kids) for those that are looking for help in trying to have kids, or one of the top specialists. You have to find the one that works for you and as Jennifer says looking at what your monies can get you (and also depending on how open the insurance will when it comes to some out of network drs). Unfortunately b/c of how tight it can be for so many when it comes to finances (such as having to stay within the insurance plan in order to keep costs down) many will never be able to get to the top specialists such as the ones mentioned above. I have a regular OB/GYN that knows a lot about endo and I wish I could share her with the ladies that need a dr like her. Pls take care, Kristy :)
