Re: Uterosacral Ligaments - Endo

Hello, Shelby,

It can be difficult to see the endo, depending on where it is and what type of endo. It is often missed by GYN physicians during laparoscopy. It is best to see an endo specialist, if possible. However, it does sound like your doctor is more knowledgeable than most when it comes to the endo.

Cauterizing is not a first, or maybe even second, choice to treat the pain. It is thought, although, that endo gets into the muscle tissue and affects the nerve tissue. Therefore, treating the nerves by cauterization or injections has been used as an option for relief. I have not tried any of that.

I have had two laps and a D&C hysteroscopy. I have had endo primarily on my uterine ligaments, which produces the intercourse pain. My back pain is awful right now. It seems to be increasing each month and lasts for about two weeks. I am wondering if my uterus is tipped back as well. It was when I was pregnant. I have pain in my tailbone region and where the hip bones are in my butt. It hurts to sit for any length of time. Of course, there is the leg pain, groin/bladder discomfort and fatigue. About the bleeding/spotting with intercourse...that can be endo also. I have had that some and I don't have any cervical problems. A second opinion, as was mentioned, is always a good idea.

Since you are so young, you may want to take the time to check out Dr. Albee. I am trying to do so myself. I know someone who saw him and her experience was great. He is in Atlanta, which is about eight hours from me. But from what I understand, it is worth it. He excises all of the endo in the entire abdominal cavity, since it can grow in other areas outside of the reproductive organs. That way you could preserve your nerve function.

I lost some nerve endings with my caesarean and my abdomen is numb. I originally thought this was a good thing because of the endo pain. But now I think it just made me not realize early enough how bad the endo has gotten again.

Hope this helps... Denise
