Uterosacral Ligaments - EndoFrom: Shelby (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Dec 29 10:51:02 2003
Well, I might as well start off with a little of my history so that you guys can better understand. I'm 19 and have had pelvic pain and pain during intercourse for the past year. I went to a doctor about it and after ruling out ovarian cysts, she proceeded to have me undergo a lap in order to determine if I have endometriosis. It runs in my family, and the fact of my having endo seems to fit with all my problems and symptoms. Nonetheless, during the lap, she did not find any endo and said my pain could be caused by my uterus being tipped (but it's in the normal position). So I went to the doctor she recommended who could do a procedure to resuspend my uterus, because I thought that was the problem. After a pelvic and rectal exam (the latter which was so painful it almost made me pass out), he believes I have endo in my uterosacral ligaments which connect my uterus to my spine. He plans on doing a lap to cut out the ligaments (there are others, so they aren't important to keep) and cauterize any suspicious looking tissues. I've also had a problem with bleeding after intercourse (which is not due to endo, right?) and so he's also going to do a D&C to determine if I have cervical polyps. Do any of you know anything about endo in the ligaments? He seemed very knowledgeable and said during a lap you can't see the endo because it's an infiltrating type and all you see is the ligaments slightly thicker (and who is to say that the ligaments are the same width in every woman). I'm going in for my second lap on the 12th and am really worried about it. I think he's correct in his 90% sure diagnosis, but what if it's in other places as well? I'd appreciate any comments or opinions or anything you have to offer. Thanks!
