Hi Lisa,

I wish you well with your surgery and I hope that it is successful. I have had endo on the bowel and adhesions in related areas too. I think you are doing the right thing getting surgery, even though going to hospital is not a pleasant experience for anyone. Usually endo surgery is considered to be day surgery and you may be admitted and discharged in the same day. The recovery time varies for people depending on what was done during the surgery and individual recovery rates. Speaking from my own experiences, after three weeks I generally feel a lot better.

Don't worry too much about your bowel being involved in the surgery. Should you be lucky enough not to have endo on the bowel itself it may be that the adhesion attached to the bowel and abdominal wall can be cut releasing your bowel back to its natural position. According to my info sheet from NZEF here "bowel symptoms can result from adhesions pulling on the bowel even if there is no active endo on the bowel". The only reason I can think of that would make surgery more serious is if there was direct involvement of endo inside or on the bowel. In which case, *most* people have successful bowel resections, although of course there are risks with any surgical treatment.

Finally, have a chat to your anaethatist before surgery to see if he or she can make the experience more comfortable for you, especially if you are prone to vomiting and nausea afterwards. I find it helpful to think (and know from experience) that there are a team of trained professionals looking after me while I am in hospital.

Best of luck, kind regards Jude.
