Re: Lupron at a young ageFrom: Emmy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Nov 17 11:05:08 2003
Sharyn, I started Lupron shots shortly after I turned 30 (after having endo and adeno and fibroid problems for years!). It's a drastic change to your endocrine system, so I was scared to do it for awhile. I waited until I got: 1. A very good doctor - a reproductive endocrinologist experienced in fertility problems. He takes all my symptoms very seriously, and can gauge my adeno, endo, etc by vaginal ultrasound 2. Counseling and anti-depression meds. I know my moods change depending where I am on my cycle, and my research shows that shifting into lupron-induced menopause can cause emotional distress. I already have personal issues, so I knew I needed the "fortifying" backdrop of therapy and paxil before the lupron started. I don't know what your particular situation is, though. 3. Information on lupron - how it worked in the body, the pros and cons, etc. I wanted to be as informed as possible so very little would "blindside" me. For example, I was prepared for the pain to get worse for 5-7 days before it got better. I just got my 4th shot, and I have not had ANY pain since the initial week after the first shot. Okay - I've had minor cramping as my add-back therapy was adjusted, but I almost don't count it (I'm so used to SEARING, 9-1-1 type pain!). I hope this helps.
