Re: What's wrong with pain pills?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 31 20:40:19 2003
Catie, I don't think that the problem is in taking the pain pills, but rather in the addiction. Depending on pain pills to make it through the day because you are in a lot of pain is understandable, and I don't see any other way to make it through. But being addicted to pain pills is another story. Addiction is a scary thing and it changes people. Take for instance alcohol-alcohol is not necessaraly "bad" for someone who is not addicted, but for someone who is addicted, it can ruin their lives and their families lives. My father was prescribed pain killers for his back and he became addicted- the addiction is what caused the problem. Getting his "fix" became more imoportant than anything else, including his wife and children. Needing a pain pill to dull the pain so you can live a semi-normal life is okay, needing a pain pill so you can continue to live is another. I am not sure if I was able to explain this the way I wanted to, basically I was saying that there is a big difference between dependence and addiction. And hopefully all of the people who are so angry and mean who would attack you and start a war over this have since left this forum. Jules
