Heather, I am 25 years old and underwent a hysterectomy 2 months ago. The intention was for me to keep my ovaries but within the 10 months b/t my surgeries my left ovary had been damaged so much by the endo that it was shriveled up and bleeding and the tube was full of blood. Since the surgery, I have been wonderful. I have only had one setback thus far and that was one of my internal sutures developed and abcess which broke during intercourse causing some bleeding and severe pain afterwards. The doctor said that it all drained out when he checked me out and that everything is ok. The answer to whether or not you will obtain an orgasm is yes you can. I actually have had several since and in truth, besides that little incident I have been able to achieve orgasm better than I did prehysterectomy. The reason mostly being because sex was somewhat painful due to the endo. I did a lot of research in choosing my decision about the hyst. but I decided in the end after being on all sorts of narcotics it was time to try to achieve a quality of life since I really didn't have much of one. I underwent 5 laps and then the 6th surgery was my hysterectomy, all of these since I was almost 16. You should never be afraid to ask your doc for meds if you are in pain. You have a right to have some relief even though it is temporary and doesn't always go completely away while on the meds, but you need to be able to somewhat function. I did read somewhere though that with removal of the cervix there could be some problems with orgasm but it is rare. My mother had everything removed cervix and all in her mid thirties and she has had no problems when it comes to the g-spot nor does she regret her decision at all. She wasn't in quite as much pain as I was but was very sick from the bleeding. My best suggestion to you, read multiple articles in scientific journals about what to expect afterwards and make sure you have exhausted all of your options. This will help you make an informed decision as to if this choice is right for you.
