Re: New with some questionsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Oct 21 17:13:17 2003
Hey Jackie: I started having my period at 11 and never had one last less than 14 days. In fact, when they were that short I rejoiced. I didn't know it was abnormal until my mom took me to the gyn at 15. He just about fainted when I told him my periods usually lasted for 20-25 days with heavy bleeding. He put me on the pill, which I took regularly for five years until I was finally diagnosed with endo via a lap(he never even thought that endo could be causing my heavy bleeding, it wasn't until I began having unbearable pain 24/7 while on the pill that he even suggested endo-which I had never heard of). Since my diagnosis, I have been taking CBCP to stop my period. If you are bleeding that much, you are probably anemic. My mom never could figure out why I was always so anemic, go figure when you are bleeding so much! But, I would get your levels tested and take a slow release iron supplement, don't forget that iron has to be taken with Vit. C for your body to absorbe it. Anyway, what I was trying to say was, yes, unfortunately that much bleeding is very normal with endo. Good luck with your surgery- I hate insurance companies! -Jules
