Re: Adenomyosis and Pregnancy

Julie & Kelly, I have never posted to this site, and just found it today, but I have been searching for similar information sporadically since being diagnosed with adenomyosis 2 months ago. I had a cone biopsy for dysplasia CIN3-4 in 2000. The inexperienced military doctor I had at the time took what seems to be my whole cervix, and then it healed SHUT, stenotic, closed! I had two UNsuccessful dilations, then finally in Dec '02 I had a "hysterOTomy" (no - not a hysterECTomy)... another doc opened by uterus from my abdomin (like a c-section, but I wasn't pregnant) and created an opening from inside out, which worked, I now have an opening, but I believe I got adenomyosis from having my uterus opened. I have read adenomyosis can start after a c-section or from trauma to the uterus... so to my dismay, I now have an opening in my cervix but have to deal with adenomyosis! Part of me feels that I should have left the cervical stenosis alone, as it may have been better than adenomyosis.(?)

I am 29, almost 30, I have been married for 2 1/2 years and we would love to start a family, but I've had one problem after another. Now my GYN doc has scheduled me for an HSG... not sure what that will tell me, but she said after that, regardless of the results she'll refer me to an infertility clinic. I've been searching for information on Adenomyosis & the possibilities of pregnancy for the past 2 months, but all I find is similar information as you presented below, particularly regarding hysterECTomy as the only real way of knowing if you have it and the only real way to get rid of it. I have never been diagnosed with endometriosis, however, after all this, it wouldn't surprise me if I got that too.

OK, I'm rambling, sorry! I am wondering if I can still get pregnant, probably not on my own since I probably don't have any cervical mucus. But then what are the chances of a successful pregnancy with assistance.

>From this site, it sounds like pregnancy is definitely possible, and not
usually affected by adenomyosis. So, Julie, if you do not have any other problems, you should be able to get pregnant. However, I'm not sure how endometriosis affects pregnancy. A friend of mine had endo & easily got pregnant, but I don't know what level she had. My GYN said that hysterectomy is not an option as long as you want to get pregnant. Adeno can be dealt with, as long as the patient can live with the menses pain levels.

If you find any more information, I would love to hear it. I feel bad that you two have this condition too, it's seems like such a mystery to the medical community. However, this site has had the most information I have seen yet.

Good luck to both of you!! Kara
