Advice, 2nd Lap scheduled, may take ovaryFrom: Tracie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Oct 13 15:06:47 2003
This is my 1st post, I'm comforted to see I am not alone. I'm 35 had lap for grapefruit size cyst in left ovary in June. Dr. found endo and took 1/3 of ovary with cyst. Six weeks later cyst and endo were back, same side. I'm trying to have 2nd child. We tried one month of IUI did not work. Cyst and endo still there and painful. Dr has scheduled 2nd lap and strongly suggested removal of left ovary to get rid of the endo & cyst. My right ovary is fine, no endo, and making eggs. Dr. says endo could spread to right then I really have no chance for a baby. Dr also suggested menopause inducing drugs for a few months after surgery to make sure the endo is completely gone, then he would encourge my periods to come back and go straight to IUI again or IVF. The whole idea of taking a ovary and inducing menopause seems very scary. My pain is dull most of the month but can spike and be debilitating around ovulation or pre-menstural. I am very torn, it seems like no amount of surgery or drugs gets rid of endo. Anyone out there get pregnangt with one ovary after the menopause drugs? Any advice or experience is welcome.
-- Thanks, Tracie
