Not much concern of addiction since it has been less than a week, and
post lap my primary concern is controlling the pain to a point where I
can sleep, function, etc. My general understanding is that percocet
should be for break-through pain, something like oxycontin is for a
longer lasting time release pain killer. And the dose can be adjusted.
Best to work with the doctor through doses/mixing.
Prior to this lap I went thru a period where I resisted painkillers b/c
I was afraid of addiction, I wasted days... hours awake with pain,
finally caving in to a pill and moderate relief. This fear was
increased my by prior doctor's concern over my taking pills just
ultracet and/or vicophrofen. And I felt that he didn't believe I was in
real pain, in fact he wanted to see me next time I was in so much
pain... can't even move in that scenario so... I think the bottom line
in working through the condition is finding a doctor who will work with
you. I feel that is one saving grace at this point. The new doctor is
a specialist, he can see by the way I walk etc, what type of pain level
I am having. I don't feel like I am whining, etc... I think you need a
new doctor who will listen to you, work with you and respect you. I did
try another specialist my general doctor had referred me to but I found
him so indifferent & insensitive, I never went back. It is enough of a
struggle to manage with endo, much less have a doctor who is not
particularly helpful or leads you to believe it is in your head. Doctors
will have enough experience to suggest different combinations, meds that
might be best for your type of pain.
Other on percocet..honestly it doesn't do alot for me. I have been
taking about 10 / day which is why they are increasing oxycontin to
decrease percocet. And if you are always playing catch-up with the
pain, you really won't have relief which is what the doctor/nurse have
explained. It may be worth trying NEURONTIN as well... I often look at
meds on webmd and I check with the pharmacist if I am concerned. At
this point, I am fortunate to trust my doctor and not worry about
amts/mixing. And my body is telling me it is best. Try to find a new
doctor to work with you on the pain front...
