My first post: After Laparoscopy: What next?

After years of heavy, painful periods and years of trying to get pregnant, I had diagnostic laparoscpoic surgery in February. Surgery revealed that I had severe endo (although I'm not sure what stage) which involved removing parts of my ovaries and my entire appendix. The doctor said if it were another surgeon they would have performed laparotomy--it was that bad.

At the post-op follow-up, the doctor said my FSH levels were 42.8 and that I would probably go into menopause, sooner rather than later (probably when I'm 41 or 42). I'm 37 now and with my 40's lurking, that's not such a good thing. I've put off having children due various career choices and marriage mistakes, and now that I'm with the right person, I've got the career I want (I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist) and I'm finally a homeowner...what better time to have a baby. What a worse time to have endo.

The doctor has not been very upfront with me. I never knew that the diagnostic surgery would end up taking parts of my ovaries (which are now collapsed, the doc says, due to the very large chocolate cysts formerly attached to them), I would go into surgical menopause (I didn't have a period for 5 months and I had hot flashes like a mother#@$%%) and that my chances for pregnancy are pretty next to nil. He told me that surgery would better my chances for pregnancy, and now he's telling me "there's still IVF." Well, doc, do you want to lend me ten grand for the treatment, which after reading the literature, show endo patients have low implantation rates, among other complications. I am angry, confused and don't feel like I want to go back to the same gyno doc for more testing. I have another appointment this week with a second guy to see what my options are.

Right now, I'm just looking for support from the endo community and I thought this would be a good place to start. Any suggestions, comments, insight, etc would be very much appreciated.
