Re: Back from surgery (lap)From: Nicky (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 3 17:53:52 2003
Lori, you have no reason to be sorry for asking questions that is how you learn about this thing that we all share. I have had problems with endo for a long time. It start like most when I started my period and they were horrible. I was in bed at least two days of every period and after two laps in my teens they said that I suffer from endo. At age 20 I had another lap to clean things up. Then I had another at 23 and then I was able to have both my kids, I am still wondering how I got so lucky, but thank god I was. After my first child I started having problems again and another lap to clean things up. After my second child it started all over again and this time it was worse then all the times before. I was doing the normal bleeding after having a child but after 3 months I still didn't stop, then 6, then 9 so in for another lap to see what the damage was this time. Things got so bad that they had to take my uterus. Then things were ok for about 4 months, no period and no pain, this was a first in many moons, then it started all over again with the lower back pain, the lack of desire and the cramping. My husband and I looked at each other and we were confused. Having my uterus taken out was supposed to stop the cramping. Well, we found out that with endo/scar tissue/adhesions the cramps are there no matter what. My Dr. at the time gave me 6 months of Lupron and put me on BCP which I have never tolerated (I will say the one that I am on is wonderful, I have never had a problem with mood swings, weight, headaches, or anything else) but I was willing to do whatever it took to get rid of the pain. Well, the pain got worse and then still worse. I finally got the insurance to let me see a specialist and after a MRI he thought it best to do another lap. The Dr. told us that once he is inside he will take care of the endo and we found a little mass on the MRI that he would take out. He would also check the overies and see if he left that they shoudl come out. It turns out once he went in that there was no endo to speak of but I was covered in scare tissue and he took that out. He gave my husband pictures and explained it all to him. I am in the process now of recovering and I hope that once this is over I can get back to my life in a semi normal way. It's been a long time since I had NO pain. Well, I am sorry this is long and I'm sorry if I gave you more info then you wanted. I hope that I answered your questions. If you have any more please feel free to ask. Hang in there, Nicky
