Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) Help Please

From: JP (anonymous@obgyn.net)

Hello, My dr has prescribed Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) for 7 days, along with an antiobiotic (cipro) for my painful periods. He stated that this treatment was very similar to a non-surgical D&C. I have never heard of this type of medication, nor the treatment. 1. Could someone please shed some light on the side effects of short term use of Provera in such a treatment? 2. Also, how painful is the treatment in terms of cramping etc? 3. How effective is this treatment in helping to alleviate the symptoms of painful periods? 4. Also, do I take the medication at a certain time of the month or does it matter? I forgot to ask while in the office.

I sincerely appreciate any help and/or explanations. God bless!
