I was diagnosed with endometriosis at age 14 (now 32), had my first lap/d&c at age 16 and have had a long history of pain associated with my reproductive organs, including chronic sciatica and anemia. I have never agreed to take the birth control pill, insisting on relying on food and exsercise to regulate my cycle. About two years ago I was diagnosed with a large, complex, fluid-filled cyst on my left ovary. I had also experience "bursting cysts" throughout the years but they usually went away. After finding the cysts, my doctor at the time encouraged me to take the pill. Uncomfortable with the idea still, and not convinced taht survery was a good option either, I took on a more extreme lifestyle along the dietary route (hormone-free/whole foods, no alcohol, no caffeine, etc.). While the pain related to the cysts has improved considerably and, it has not disappeared. More recently, about two weeks ago in fact, I got my period 2 weeks into my new cycle (a first for me as over the past 5 years or so, I'd been getting my period every 28 days, no fail). Like my normal menses, it started with old blood, yet it has continued that way for two weeks (with the occasional spotting of new blood). My doctor has told me that this is not uncommon, although I am quite concerned. I am wondering if this might be related to a reoccurrence of endometriosis and not the cyst. I am wondering if anyone has experienced a 2 week-long period of dried blood as well? Also, if any doctors are reading this: do these systems sound consistent with endometriosis or even fibroids? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
