endometrioma vs. cancerFrom: Mandie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Sep 15 12:17:15 2003
Hi, I am 34 with a history of endo. I had a laparoscopy to remove a few lesions 7 years ago and have been fortunate enough to have 2 children since. The pregnancies helped my endo for a while, but recently I've had a lot of symptoms. I had a pelvic US including transvaginal last week and the tech showed me that there was an endometrioma on the left ovary. Unfortunately, I did not ask how big. Anyway, I did not have this previously, so I've been researching and it sounds like it is impossble to tell an endometrioma of the ovary from ovarian cancer. I'm still waiting on results-a radiologist had not been to my OB's office to interpret them as of Friday- and I am a little nervous. What are the chances this could be cancer? And what is the standard treatment for somone with a suspected endometrioma and endo history? Also, if I need surgery, and am finished having children, would they remove the entire ovary? Sorry this is so long, just have lots of questions. Thanks for any input. Mandie
