Re: Worried for my Fiance with Endometriosis

Hi Matt,

So glad to see an empathetic partner searching for help! My endo pain increased ENORMOUSLY when I went vegetarian about 1 1/2 years ago. Only recently was I finally able to link the increased pain with my increased soy consumption (I had it like 3 times a day. Soy dogs, tofu, TVP, etc. etc.). For some women, soy doesn't seem to be a problem but those women might also not be vegetarian/vegan. Suggest to her a soy elimination diet (cut it out for a month, see if her pain goes away/decreases, then slowly start adding it back in). Also, coffee and alchohol have estrogen like effects, similar to soy, and can increase the amount of estrogen circulating in the body. Eating lotsa fiber tends to bind extra estrogen and flush it out of the system, or so I've read. PLUS there are all those hormones added to foods (and the plastic problem) but since she's a vegetarian, I'm guessing she's minimalized that already.

Hope that helps some. I'm just starting to offer advice because I've only known I Endo since June of '02. Had never even heard of it prior to that! Not only do you have to read up, you have to experience it for yourself.

Good luck to both your fiance and you!

Melissa
