Re: Anyone take PAXIL......From: Lesley (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jul 27 22:02:07 2003
Hello I am responding to your post about Paxil. I was never on for endo but for depression. I had a really hard time with resloving my depression so my drs decided to have me give Paxil a try. I am going to be brutally honest with you. I found that it did help - for quite awhile. It took me time to get used to the side effects and for it to work. You are correct in saying that it takes a few weeks to be in your system.I would say it did well for about 4-5 months for me then things changed. I felt too flat - I did not have lows that were depressing me but I also did not have any real emotion and that scared me. I would be confronted with something that would normally bring me pleasure and nothing - confronted with something that would normally bring panic or anger and again nothing. There are also major sexual effects that happen for most people. I did a really dumb thing and just stopped taking it which I would STRONGLY not advise. I had a breakdown and was physically sick and mentally ill as well. I know people who went off slowly with a drs supervison who also had really bad withdrawl effects. I have went through depressions again - some endo related - and would not go on Paxil again unless I was completley at my last option. It helps when you are on it BUT if you plan to be on it forever then go for it but if you want to eventually come off then becareful there ARE withdrawl issues. I know my drs said there are not but I and others went through them. The only other one side effect that I want ot tell you about is the weight gain - 15lbs for me. There are many sites out there about Paxil and message boards so check them out. Paxil can be good but it is a powerful medication so make advised choices. Good luck with it
