Re: a Pee questionFrom: holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jul 20 17:57:21 2003
terese, you are so right about cranberry juice being bad. antibiotics also cause pain. they actually cause the IC to get worse. i was very fortunate that my doc only prescribed antibiotics for 2 rounds and then decided that something else was wrong. i've heard of women spending years on antibiotics and then having very serious bladder damage. did your urologist ever give you any tips on foods and drinks to eat and to avoid? email me if you want. i can send you the website where the info is found. i've had great success with the diet changes. i've only been making the changes for a few weeks, but every day i feel better. it's amazing. i'm on elmiron which is supposed to actually rebuild the bladder lining. i'm also taking pyridium and elavil for the spasms and pain. and i've really noticed a difference in the amount of pain. i'm actually living again. :) have you had a cystoscopy? they can actually diagnose it with that. you should be under general anesthesia for this because it's really painful for IC patients. when they looked in my bladder, it was really inflamed and icky. so that's how they diagnosed mine. also my bladder held a normal amount, but i have pain and have to pee after just about 2 ounces.
