Hello Doctor, My friend was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the endometrium in January 2001. Her cancer is in Stage I and currently appear to be in remission. The doctor though initially decided to do hysteractomy on her suddenly changed his mind since she was only 30 and never had a chance to have a baby. They decided to treat her with Provera 10mg for one year period. After stopping Provera, the doctors wanted the couple to try for a baby and to speed up the process they put her on fertility drugs and altogether treated her with Fertomide and Letrozole tablets, and then they did ultra sound every month on her during the medication.Initially eggs were not produced but improvment were shown later. Then they injected her with Profassi 500 IU twice and since nothing was happening they prescribed an HSG and it showed the uterus synechiae with irregular filling defects, bilateral fimbrial both end blockage. In May 2003 the doctor recommended laproscopic sugery to remove the blockage.

In June 2003 the couple seeked a second opinion before considering the surgery to remove the blockage and when this doctor ran some tests on her, she appear to be in remission. However, the rest of the medical report indicates that, Her uterus is retroverted and she also has polycystic ovaries. A few tiny nodes are seen in the pelvis in the obturator region and along the iliac vessels. A tiny node is also posterior to the fundus of the uterus. The doctor said these nodes can be either due to the cancer problem or due to the infection resulted from insertion of instruments during the frequent biopsies that she were subjected to.

This Oncologist/gynecologist prognosis for her is to have a 'moderate hysteractomy' including the removal of the both ovaries. But the couple is still desperate and as a last hope were still wondering whether

1)due to all the problems listed above, do you think there is a chance for her to conceive a baby? 2)if they opt for all the needed surgery or treatment and try invitro or with the aid of more fertility drugs,do you think she will conceive? 3) will the baby born have any birth defects? 4)Is she at risk if she delays getting a hysterectomy?

Kindly give your valueable opinion.

Thanks
