Hi Michelle,

My name is Kerry-Ann and I found out I had endo. when I was 20. I was really terrified when I found out I had this disease because the only contact I had with it previous to being diagnosed was through my cousin who was and still is battling infertility as a result of it. My brain could not deal with the fact that I had this disease, not to mention the stress that it put me through while at the same time I had to be doing surgery on my left kidney. Trust me it was not a good time for me. My social life was not all that disturbed by it but my sex life was the pits! Sex was painful to say the least and the side effects of the medication I was taking was not making the situation any better. I was taking Danazol right after I had the laparotomy but due to the expense and the side effects I switched to Depo Provera. Never regretted this choice and today I am still on Depo. I do experience spotting and some breakthrough bleedings on Depo but I feel much better on it. The weight gain is a slight problem but I am working on having a proper diet and I am a devoted gym freak :>!!! As long as I don't have a period then I am fine. I am a bit paranoid when it comes on to this because a period means to me food to the endo to rejuvenate itself and cause havoc. So Depo Provera it shall be for a while! Now I am not too bad. I do have my scary moments such as the early morning visits to the hospital emergency room as a result of really tearing pain that doctors still can't say if they were related to my kidney problems or the endo. I have to count my blessings though.

In addition to all this nothing beats the support you get from family and friends who understand what I am going through and even if they don't they are always there for me. But I found the strength within myself to deal with it by educating myself about this disease and finding the support I need by visiting forums like this one. I also decided to add my own arsenal to the fight against endo. by founding the Unveiling Endometriosis Project, which I am using to educate, make aware and support those who have the disease my writing a book about the disease through the voices of those who have it. Through this Project I have met fantastic and strong women who support each other in their fight against this disease. Why not join us? Contact me for more information about this Project at anonymous@obgyn.net And I would love to be one of those friends you need to turn to when you need one. Just shout me anytime at my e-mail address. And don't leave out this forum. The women here are wonderful! Take care Michelle and my prayers are with you. As we say in Jamaica WALK GOOD!!!
