Looking for adviceFrom: Karine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Apr 30 06:06:38 2003
Hi, I recently visisted a consultant after being refered by a Well Woman clinic. I had really bad period pains - off work every month, vommiting awake all night, even a little faint the last time! - The lady at the WW clinic thought I may have endo and thus refered me. It took 2 months to get an appointment and in the interim I went on the pill which has considerably reduced my pain. The consultant asked me if I had any pain now I was on the pill when I said no this was as good as the end of my consulation. He said that if someone presented to him with bad period pains he put them on the pill and if the pain receded then he went no further. He hardly asked me anything - family history, symptoms of my period pains, did I want to become pregnant? none of this was covered - I am 30 and have had no children. My question is this. Should I seek a second opinon or is this a common approach that if the pain diminishes then no further action need be taken? I obviously want to believe that all is well! but I am afraid to let it go so easily and then potentially be faced with a greater problem later in life. Does anyone have a take on this situation? Thank You.
