Re: hysterectomy questions???

Hi,

Removing the uterus does not remove the source of endo. Endo is outside of the uterus in the pelvic cavity. If endo implants are not removed at the time of a hysterectomy and the ovaries are left in, endo will continue to grow. All you need is a little bit left behind and a source of estrogen and it will grow. If an attempt to remove the ovaries is not completely successful, the endo will grow.

Medical management of endo is usually the best first route of treatment. If that route is exhausted, then surgery would be last choice.

Hope this helps. Best wishes, D.N.
