Re: menstrual cup thing

Ok, I'm going to play devil's advocate here. It never ceases to amaze me what people will complain about. Not enough research is done, then any research that is done isn't to your liking. Ok. First, the note says in plain English that the disease cause is "multifactorial," meaning more than one cause! It doesn't say ANYWHERE that menstrual cups cause Endo in all women. Obviously that would be impossible, since most women don't even use the cups! I think Dr. Lione etc. acknowledged that pretty clearly. However, obviously there must be some pretty good data supporting the concept that the cups cause implantation and therefore more severe disease/perhaps even new disease in some women, otherwise I can't imagine these organizations would waste their time. I for one am GLAD that someout out there gives a hoot enough about Endo women to research ALL aspects, not just the trendy and popular ones! If recalling the cups can help prevent my teenage daughter and any future granddaughters from getting new or worse Endo, then I say, where do I sign up to help. As for the rude comment that people getting together to rally about this "nonsense" issue lack substance in their lives, well, that's just RUDE on your part. NO ENDO RESEARCH IS NONSENSE, even if it's not popular or exciting to YOU, it's still important. There is NO difference between cautioning against use of menstrual cups than there is cautioning against certain dietary restrictions - if cutting something out, for example, dairy, helps you feel better with your Endo, then it's worthwhile! No one said it would CURE or PREVENT Endo, just help you feel better! That's the same idea as the menstrual cups! And as for the suggestion that somehow these organizations are tied to the tampon industry, well, THAT is for sure nonsense. I know for a FACT that the ERC has released SEVERAL papers AGAINST tampons and the tampon industry, including dioxin information and also a big REBUTTAL that was released earlier to the Yale people who said that tampons were GOOD for Endo, telling them they were WRONG in about 100 different pages of evidence. I know this because I saw it myself. So just once, maybe an organization is actually doing something WITHOUT getting paid by sponsors for it - cut them a break - they are trying to find ways to help existing patients in addition to finding a cure. Why do you people always have to attack them on here?? I'm so sick of it - they have helped me so much and I have never found any ulterior motives in their help AT ALL. Oh and by the way - why don't you ask the EA why they don't stand up against Lupron, because the ERC already HAS on several ocassions, including letters to the FDA. If you don't believe me, you can check their website yourself. Maybe that's because they, unlike the EA, don't take money from Lupron and don't have to kiss their tails to keep getting the cash. It's pretty obvious in all their materials that they tell it like it is with Lupron, good bad and ugly. I'm not turning this into a big debate like the one that was on here a couple months ago, but I am going to say this, I don't think any amount of research is "nonsense" and I for one am glad that the ERC and Dr. Lione are looking into this matter. I highly doubt it's their ONLY project, for God's sake - just one of many aspects that they are looking into to help EXISTING AND future patients! Before a cure is found, if we can find things that help us in the meanwhile, I say, GREAT! If those things are using natural feminine hygeine products like washable pads (I don't know, just saying), giving up red meat and exercising, well great! Stop bashing the organizations for trying to help - it doesn't cost YOU anything and our daughters MAY actually benefit down the road. If you want additional research done, why don't you try paying for it by making a 1 million dollar donation someplace instead of running your mouth off and insulting people for trying to help and make a difference?
