Contemplating hysterectomy?From: AGS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Apr 10 15:52:18 2003
I am writing to recommend a website called : http://www.hystersisters.com. It is about all things related to hysterectomy; the related site, http://www.hormonejungle.com, is about the specific HRT needs of those in premature menopause thanks to surgery. If you are contemplating hysterectomy for endo, we have 25,000 members, many of whom do have endo and are dealing with the fallout. Hysterectomy does work for many but is not guaranteed. As far as questions about the surgery and recovery themselves, there are a number of message boards and FAQs to help you understand what you're heading into. I had to have a hysterectomy thanks to severe adenomyosis and a giant endometrioma that was adhered to all my other internal organs. For me, it turned out to be worth it (once I got over the shock of them telling me that's what I needed!). It's not perfect, but I went estrogen-free for the first few months, and still take Prometrium (bio-identical progesterone) in an effort to damp down any endo that remained. The surgeon did tell me that I had one of the worst cases he had seen...stage IV, with obliteration of the cul-de-sac (that's thanks to an ectopic pregnancy back there a few years back). Anyway, I can't recommend this site too highly...anything you might want to know seems to be right there! Best of luck to you all who are considering this life-changing surgery. It's a tough decision, but I found this website to be extremely helpful along the way! Audrey
