Re: What should my mom expect...From: AGS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Mar 30 23:48:55 2003
A resource for your mom, if she is on-line, is a website called http://www.hystersisters.com. For after the fact, there is http://www.hormonejungle.com, which has a forum called the "No-Hormone Desert Oasis". This is a site related to all things about surgical menopause and hysterectomy, and has nearly 25,000 members, many of whom, like myself, have endo. The hysterectomy seems to be curative for many...as far as looking older, in part I may look younger :) these days since I am no longer bleeding heavily from adenomyosis nor in constant pain. Recovery takes quite a while, as you are not only recovering from surgery, but "jump-starting" menopause rather abruptly rather than over a period of years. Good luck to your mom, and she will need your help in any way she can...lifting and major activities are OUT for the first six weeks at least. Even if it is a lap procedure, there are hundreds of internal sutures, and taking it easy is a MUST those first few weeks. I hope she finds relief. There's a LOT of hyst-related info for both you and your mom on the website, and hopefully you will find that helpful. Audrey
