After laparoscopy, my doctor shut down my ovaries and everything else with depo-lupron injections for 6 months, followed by continous birth control so I would be menopausal. I had all the HOT FLASHES I could ever want and that was probably the worst part of it. I had a little problem with depression going into the third month because of no estrogen. I am well on my way to recovery and I should be able to have children as a result. I think the hot flashes and $600 a month shots were worth it to have children one day. If you have questions, ask your doctor, they can answer them. If you can go ahead and get a second opinion, do it if it will ease your mind. Most importantly, think of what the end result will be and keep your head up kid, the road may be long, but it's not a death sentence, is it?
