(vaginal cancer is rare however). Some docs say you don't need a PAP after a hyst, or need only every 3 years, but most docs continue doing them every year. You also have an ovary- an even more important reason to be seen each year- to help detect ovarian cancer. (a pelvic exam doesn't always find it in the early stages, but it's a good defense). I believe removing both ovaries would be ideal for controlling endo, but if you are getting substantial relief this way, I think your doc gave you good advice. Avoid HRT (actually it would be ERT in your case) if at all possible. Don't believe the stories that you will necessarily go into early menopause with one ovary. You are somewhat MORE LIKELY to, but it doesn't mean it will happen. To get information about earlymenopause and one ovary, see the archives in the woman's health forum (doctor responses). I kept one ovary and have no symptoms of menopause 3 years post op and feel great.
