Re: LupronFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jan 21 05:51:44 2003
Lauren, Everyone reacts differently to Lupron, so it is hard to say exactly what you may experience. I took it for 9 months and my emotional side effects were few. I had about 5-6 "lupron moments" where I was either hysterically crying for no reason or absolutely mad at everyone and everything. I knew that mood swings could happen on Lupron, so that helped me ride those moments out when they happened. Most times it only lasted a day. I had more issues with hot flashes and night sweats than anything. And I also found that the day after I got a shot, I would need to stay home from work. I would get a bad headache and be sick at my stomach for about 24-36 hours after a shot, but then was fine. I just started scheduling them on a Friday afternoon so I had the weekend at home to recover if necessary. Also beware that initially your pain and symptoms may escalate. When you start the shots, your body will initially put out an estrogen surge until it figures out what is going on and then decreases estrogen production. Personally for me, after the first month, I felt great. My pain and symptoms pretty much subsided completely and I stayed pain free for almost a year after stopping the shots. Just try to hang in there. I think it helps if you have an idea what to expect. Good luck with it. If you would like to talk more about it, please email me personally. Hugs! Amy Meyer
