Re: is lupron my next step?From: Anonymo (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jan 12 09:36:28 2003
Hi Holly, I totally respect your choice, whatever it may be, and I know that you have a difficult personal decision ahead of you. However, I must say that I would strongly advise you to avoid taking Lupron. I have watched so many women come onto this and other forums saying precisely the same things you are, and then returning later to say how much they regret taking Lupron, and that no matter how much they were warned against it, they could not possibly appreciate what the terrible side effects would be until they actually experienced them. I would just hate to see you turn into one of those women. It is true that there are some who experience some of their endo symptoms subsiding from Lupron, but these are relatively few and the big problem is that you have no way of knowing which of these women you'll be in advance. Add to that the fact that even those women who get the best results from Lupron always have endo return afterwards. For all the risk involved with Lupron, the most benefit you can get is temporary relief, and you will always come back to the same place, most likely in a worse position than before, searching desperately for something to relieve your pain. Most importantly, there are other options. For one, have you considered trying natural progesterone cream? A lot of women on the WebMD board and the EndoNatural board have had remarkable success with this, and from what I understand it has virtually no side effects (save for a brief transition period where you may experience irregular bleeding as your body adjusts to the treatment). Also, a major benefit over Lupron is that NPC can be taken indefinitely, whereas Lupron is limited to a 6-month period. I know I must sound like an NPC saleswoman at this point -- lol -- but that is only because I can't stand to see women (who share the same disease of endo that I have) taking a toxic drug whose effects range from at best short temporary moderate relief to permanent neurological side effects, including depression, memory loss, hair loss, and migraines -- when they stand no risk from at least trying an all-natural remedy such as NPC, whose effects range from at worst having no effect at all (I know this is possible, but I actually haven't heard of any failure stories) to at best permanent relief from endometriosis symptoms (I know of many women for whom this has occurred). I can't say that I have personally tried NPC, but this is only because I was fortunate enough to find total relief from endo (for the time being) from a good thorough laparoscopy plus a course of continuous birth control pills, which may or may not be another option for you (I know the CBCP's do not work for everyone, but at least the good surgery I believe is a very important component of endometriosis treatment). If you have not already, I would highly recommend that before making any decisions you at least take a look at the EndoNatural group on Yahoo -- where you will find hundreds of women who are successfully treating their endo through various natural means. Why not take the opportunity to educate yourself and make sure you really know what all the options are before seriously considering something that you are obviously so hesitant about? Here is the address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/endonatural/ So that is my rather long-winded advice! :) Whatever you decide, we'll be here to support you. And I hope you find your solution ASAP. Good luck.
