Re: Help Im only 16From: Anonymo (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 9 23:20:25 2003
Hi Samantha, I'm sorry you have this awful disease. But there is at least one good thing about your situation -- the average time before women with endo get diagnosed is 9 years. So most women with endo had it when they were your age but didn't find it until many years later. At least you've found it early and can take action before it gets worse. There are DEFINITELY other options besides med's for endo. If your doctor told you you had no other options, I would strongly recommend that you find a new doctor. I know this can be difficult at your age, because you may not have total control of the situation. The best results for treating endo are through laparoscopic surgery by a GOOD SURGEON who is expert in endometriosis. I know surgery may sound scary, but laparoscopy is a really small surgery that is done outpatient (that means you can go home the same day) and only makes very small (size of a pencil eraser) incisions (one in your bellybutton and two or three down by your pubic area, which means they'll be hidden under your underpants) that usually heal with very little scarring, if any. Laparoscopy was my first surgery, and I was scared but it was not bad at all, and I was better in just a few days. I would suggest that you take a look at this list of recommended endo doctors and talk to your parents about the possibility of going to see one of these in your area. Here's the list: http://hcgresources.com/docs.html Good luck, Samantha -- you are not alone! Actually, several of your friends probably have endometriosis and don't know it yet!
