Re: Health Insurance For Pregnant WomenFrom: Kimberly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Dec 30 15:28:41 2002
Debbie -- I don't think the site Kristy mentioned will be able to help you, sweetheart. They usually answer questions about pregnancy, not insurance. My mom just moved from Arkansas, and I know she had difficulty getting coverage for her thyroid problems, as it was deemed a pre-existing condition. I think in Arkansas that private insurers can exclude whatever they want. There is a program called CHIP that may cover you, but you have to meet their criteria, and it's an additional cost if you buy maternity coverage. I don't know if you can qualify for it after you are pregnant. I think it's a state-sponsored program, so you need to find the phone number for them and call. The deductible for CHIP is pretty high. I think my mom had to pay about $2000 before benefits kicked in, but at least it was something. I'm posting a link for you to read about coverage in Arkansas. Please check your phone book and see if you can find a govt number to talk to someone about the CHIP program. http://www.healthinsuranceinfo.net/ar03.html Best of luck to you! Kim
