Re: Diet and EndoFrom: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Dec 30 15:02:29 2002
I was diagnosed with endo 4 years ago. After 5 endo surgeries and a miscarriage, I went to a "alternative" physician. He put me on some enzymes and evening primrose oil. This helped with the pain. He also told me to cut out red meat, dairy (Mostly because of the hormones that cows are given.) and caffine. Aslo, avoid diet beverages, the saccarin is not good for you. black licorice should also be avoided because it has a form of estrogen in it. (Excess estrogen is sometimes believed to cause endo problems.) I cut out most of the red meat and dairy. To my surprise, not only did I feel better, but I lost a decent amount of weight. I only gained 15 pounds throughout my pregnancy. I asked the Dr. if the enzymes were the cause for my weight loss. He told me no. He said that I probably had something in my diet that was causing an allergic reaction. Thus, mantaining my weight. He said that the reason many people don't lose weight is because they are eating something that they are allergic to and don't even know it. It's hard to eliminate these items if they are a part of your normal diet, but I suggest weaning yourself off of them. I switched to soy and rice milk and I also started eating green leafy vegetables as my source of calcium. Hope this helps.
