postpartum hemorrhage and emergency hysterectomyFrom: mecy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Dec 29 07:49:35 2002
I was curious if anyone could relate to my story. I had severe endometriosis with extensive adhesions basically gluing my insides together (tubes, ovaries, bowel, uterus, you name it!). I underwent IVF to conceive my daughter. However, during her c-section birth I began hemorrhaging uncontrollaby and had to have an emergency hysterectomy to save my life. The medical records mention the adhesions and seem to indicate they were the cause of the hemorrhage - during the incision, they were cut and began bleeding out of control. It also mentioned that during the healing process of my laparoscopy the year before, a mass of blood vessels was formed that was also severed during the c-section. My dr was surprised that I was able to carry the pregnancy to term with the state of my pelvis and right before he decided to take out my uterus, he told my husband that he did not recommend any more pregancies. Has anyone had an experience even remotely similar - hemorrhage after surgery due to adhesions being severed? Thank you, mecy
