Help, surgery or not?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Nov 28 00:28:05 2002
Hi everyone, I am new here and thought I would explain my predicament. I had endometrosis removed on my left ovary in 1996 and two months later became pregnant with my first child....I gave birth to him and had two more back to back, my last child born, April 9, 99. Then, all hell broke loose. I started having many neuro issues and I've been tested at the best hospitals in the country and I have symptoms but no diagnosis. So, we move from Boston to the dry climate (I have something similiar to fibro plus severe allergies and had four sinus surgeries...nasal polypectomy's..had to get to the dry climate). All was going well until I started to have bowel problems, along with miserable periods like I had before my original lap. But the bowel troubles were starting to interfere with everything I ate and life has become hell. My PC diagnosed me with IBS and some days are good, some bad. Last Friday, a fantastic GYN did a laperoscopy and I assumed he would go in (like the first time) and remove my endo and all would be well. Didn't happen. He says my left ovary (my problem side) is embedded by two thirds in my pelvic wall. He suggests abdominal surgery (in the hospital three days and up to six weeks recovery) to remove the ovary. He cannot guarantee this will help my problems though. He was frustrated that he could not see behind the ovary and said that surgery "could" lead him to figure out what is going on OR it could just be moved into that place from childbirth's and my problems are bowel related. I had an upper GI and Lower GI along with an endoscopy, over a year ago...all was well. I just hate this. I also have this weird sensation that happens in my lower quadrant that feels like a burst of adrenaline (a pheochromocytomo, adrenal tumor, was ruled out three times). I am thinking, COULD MY OVARY BE PUSHING AGAINST A NERVE CAUSING THIS SENSATION? I'd give my life to have that annoying sensation go away. Also, I get my periods every three weeks and when I have them, the pain on the left side is close to labor pain. But, when he was inside me, on Friday, he didn't see any endo but said it could be on the backside, just odd that he didn't see ANY. So, what would you do? he told my husband that this surgery is up to me and how much I want to "try" to get rid of my symptoms. Again, he could not guarantee anything and is a superb specialist and I trust him. I don't want to have major surgery (he said he could not do this by laperscope, had to be done by the full abdominal surgery) and end up with more problems then I started with. I can't go there since I can't take anymore problems. OK, I hope somone will read this and give me their advice....his exact words..your left ovary is embedded in your pelvic wall. Why, he doesn't know...could be the endo, could be any other reason. Thanks for reading and thanks for any responses. i am going away for five days and hope to hear back from someone, anyone who may have some good feedback and advice. all my best. Thank you......Amy
