Re: Not yet diagnosed with endo but some questions about itFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Nov 4 09:18:08 2002
Shannon, Insist that your doctor go on with the scope (lap). Sounds like she suspects endo or she wouldn't probably have suggested a laparoscopy. A lap is the only true way to diagnose endo. Sounds to me that you have it-your story and symptoms are exactly like mine and I was finally diagnosed with endo about age 25 (6 years ago). I would insist on the lap before you go to a gastro specialist. Stomach/bowel issues are very common with endo. Endo implants are often found on the bowel and colon areas. My first lap showed my uterus and bowel were stuck together, explaining the severe pain a bowel movement would cause. The Doc removed most of the scar tissue in this area but had to be cautious, as that is a touchy area to mess with. I now only have bowel pain during my period, which is at least some sort of improvement. I know it may seem scary to have surgery, but a lap is really not bad at all. It is usually outpatient surgery. I've had two now and found them to not be bad at all. Some discomfort and pain after, but they make pain medicine for a reason so....The Doc may be able to remove some of the scar tissue during surgery, and besides that, I think it would just bring you peace of mind to know what's going on. If you want to talk privately, email me directly. Amy
